Yankees Earn Clutch Win, 3-2
|
The Houston 1980 Astros got a superb performance from pitcher Vern Ruhle, but the New York 1962 Yankees still won the game, 3-2. Ruhle threw 7.1 innings of 6-hit ball. Rollie Sheldon earned the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.2 innings. His record is now 1-0. New York 1962 goes to 33-21, Houston 1980 to 37-20.
Bobby Richardson, who is a two-time All-Star, had a direct impact on the outcome. Richardson contributed a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put New York 1962 up, 3-2.
"This team's hitting on all cylinders," said Yankees manager Kelly Audia.
