Clark Stars for Giants in 16-5 Win
|
The San Francisco 1989 Giants beat the Milwaukee 1982 Brewers, 16-5, at Candlestick Park. The Giants got a fine performance from first baseman Will Clark, who went 3-5 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 4 times and drove in 4. Scott Garrelts, who is tied for 3rd in the NL in quality starts with 6, was the winning pitcher. Over 6.2 innings, he allowed 4 runs on 7 hits, with no walks and 3 strikeouts. The Giants, now 20-16, know that wins in April count the same as wins in September.
Kevin Mitchell, who is tied for 7th in the NL in total bases with 90, came through for San Francisco 1989 with a grand slam home run in the bottom of the sixth. The third baseman went 3 for 5 for the game, including 1 home run and 2 doubles. He scored 2 runs and collected 6 RBI.
Postgame, Giants manager Kelly Audia complimented Clark. "No question about it. the Thrill was terrific."
