Florida 1997 Sunk by St. Louis 1985, 2-1
|
The St. Louis 1985 Cardinals had to overcome a good performance from Florida 1997 pitcher Alex Fernandez to claim a 2-1 win at Busch Stadium. Fernandez went 6.1 innings and allowed 1 run. The win went to Todd Worrell in relief. His record improves to 2-0. Rick Helling took the loss. The Cardinals win now puts them at 17-21.
St. Louis 1985 took a 2-1 lead on Willie McGee's 6th double of the season. The 2-run double, which McGee hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Florida 1997 pitcher Rick Helling visibly frustrated.
"You have to win 1-0, 3-2, 2-1 games if you want to get to where you want to go," said Cardinals manager Kelly Audia.
