Giants Hand San Diego 1984 6-3 Loss
|
San Francisco 1989 and San Diego 1984 took Mother Nature's best shot and still managed to complete their ballgame.
Led by Kevin Mitchell, the San Francisco 1989 Giants downed the San Diego 1984 Padres, 6-3. Mitchell slugged 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice for the Giants. Mike LaCoss, the winner, improved to 3-3. He held the Padres to 1 run on 5 hits over 6 innings, while striking out 2 and walking 3. Mike Krukow earned the save for San Francisco 1989, his 12th of the year.
Mitchell contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for San Francisco 1989 in the bottom of the first. With his team trailing 1-0, Mitchell took a slider from Tim Lollar and stroked the home run to right-center. His 23rd home run of the season allowed the Giants to leap in front, 2-1.
Mitchell attributed the win to "everyone pulling their weight."
Today's win puts San Francisco 1989 at 23-24, while San Diego 1984 falls to 20-30.
