Reds Bang Out 8-6 Win Versus San Francisco 1989
|
The Cincinnati 1976 Reds powered past the San Francisco 1989 Giants, 8-6, at Riverfront Stadium. Johnny Bench provided some of the pop. Little General went 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Jack Billingham claimed the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed 1 run on no hits in 3 innings. His record stands at 4-0. The Cincinnati 1976 win streak is now 3 games.
Had Joel Youngblood not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Youngblood hit a run-scoring double. That made the score 7-6, in favor of the Reds.
"You start putting runs on the board and winning, everyone's going to get excited," said Youngblood.
