Cubs Get Thrilling 7-6 Win
The Chicago 1989 Cubs beat the New York 1986 Mets, 7-6 -- though it took them 10 innings. Chicago 1989 second baseman Ryne Sandberg had a pretty good game. He went 3 for 5 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Les Lancaster came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2 innings. His record now stands at 3-1. The Cubs now have a record of 33-31 with the win over New York 1986.

The game was still up for grabs in the bottom of the tenth. With one out, Sandberg hit a sinker from Roger McDowell for a run-scoring single. The Cubs, in dramatic fashion, had a walk-off win.
