New York 1986 Gets 6-2 Road Win
|
The New York 1986 Mets took on the Pittsburgh 1979 Pirates at Three Rivers Stadium.
New York 1986 pitcher Sid Fernandez had a large part in his team subduing the Pittsburgh 1979 Pirates, 6-2. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the left-hander. Fernandez, now 10-3, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 7, walking 2, and allowing 2 runs.
Rafael Santana went 1 for 4 for New York 1986. The 28-year old shortstop had a key at-bat in the top of the second. With two out and a runner on 2nd, he broke a 0-0 tie with a run-scoring single off Ed Whitson. It was his 79th hit of the season.
"Sid did a really nice job of taking the ball and giving us a chance to win the game," said New York 1986 manager Kelly Audia.
New York 1986 now owns a record of 48-39.
