Toronto 1993 Beaten, 8-4, by Houston 1980
|
At SkyDome, the Toronto 1993 Blue Jays and Houston 1980 Astros were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.
The Toronto 1993 Blue Jays got a superb performance from pitcher Todd Stottlemyre, but the Houston 1980 Astros still won the game, 8-4. Stottlemyre came in in relief and pitched to 24 batters. J.R. Richard picked up the win, lifting his record to 11-1 on the season. He struck out 8 and walked 3 in 7.2 innings, while yielding 4 runs. Joe Sambito, credited with the save, is now 1 for 1 in save opportunities.
Houston 1980 used the timely hitting of Bruce Bochy to seize the win. The catcher stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Astros on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"I like our moxie," said Astros manager Kelly Audia.
With the win, Houston 1980 pushed its record to 39-21.
