Baltimore 1983 second baseman Rich Dauer had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Dauer was 2-4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice, even as New York 1962 beat the Orioles, 7-6. Reliever Tex Clevenger picked up the win. His record improves to 1-1. Bill Swaggerty took the loss. The first-place Yankees have won 5 in a row.

Jack Reed drove in one run for New York 1962. The 29-year old center fielder had a key at-bat in the top of the seventh. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 6-6 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Bill Swaggerty. It was his 7th RBI of the season.
