Baseball fans saw a good contest between the San Francisco 1989 Giants and New York 1986 Mets.

The Giants earned a hard-fought, 5-3 win in 10 innings at Shea Stadium. To do so required withstanding a fine effort from New York 1986 pitcher Sid Fernandez. Fernandez went 7 innings and allowed 3 runs. The win lifted the San Francisco 1989 record to 25-25.

San Francisco 1989 used the timely hitting of Greg Litton to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Giants on top, 5-3. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.

Litton told a San Francisco 1989 Chronicle reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
