Reds Slap 5-4 Loss on Pittsburgh 1979
|
The Cincinnati 1976 Reds and Pittsburgh 1979 Pirates played an entertaining game for Three Rivers Stadium patrons.
In a close game at Three Rivers Stadium, the Cincinnati 1976 Reds edged the Pittsburgh 1979 Pirates, 5-4. Cincinnati 1976 left fielder George Foster stood apart with his performance. He went 3-4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Don Gullett was the winner. He's now 7-3. The loser was 28-year old right-handed pitcher Bert Blyleven.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Dave Concepcion? The Cincinnati 1976 shortstop had a 2-run double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Reds on top, 4-2. For the game, Concepcion had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"Winning is great," Concepcion said. "It's always just guys picking each other up -- if not me, then the next guy."
Cincinnati 1976 is now 33-25, Pittsburgh 1979 31-27.
